2023 Turkey Textile Sector Statistics
In 2023, the Turkish textile sector faced several challenges in terms of export and production. Textile and raw materials exports, which were $12.9 billion in 2022, decreased to $12.6 billion in 2023, marking a 2.3?cline. Throughout the year, exports to EU countries particularly decreased by 17.6%, falling to $4.6 billion. Export Performance by Textile Product Groups:
Technical Textiles: Technical textile exports, with a significant share of $2.2 billion, experienced a 7.1?crease. One of the largest subgroups, non-woven fabrics, accounted for 30.3% of total exports (Etextile Magazine).
Yarn Exports: Yarn exports fell by 17.1% in 2023, reaching $2 billion. The most important sub-product group was synthetic filament yarns.
Knitted Fabrics: Knitted fabric exports, valued at $1.9 billion, showed a 5.9?crease. The highest exports were made to Italy, Bulgaria, Morocco, and Kyrgyzstan.
Denim Fabrics: Denim fabric exports decreased by 16.7%, amounting to $246 million. Major markets included Tunisia, Egypt, and Morocco.
Home Textiles: This category saw a 14.4?crease, with exports totaling $1.9 billion. Towels and cleaning cloths held the largest share within this category (Etextile Magazine).
Despite declines in certain product groups such as technical textiles and yarn, the Turkish textile sector is striving to maintain its position through market diversification. The 2023 data highlights significant declines, particularly in the European and African markets.
